What is a Memory?

A Memory is the mental facultly of retaining and recalling past experience and the act or an instance of remembering (The Free Dictionary)

Memories are triggered by things that happen in our lives or sounds, perhaps smells or by seeing something like a photograph or picture or maybe a television programme.

We store many memories in our minds that we can recall in many different ways and on different occassions. Admittedly they are not all good, some can be ones we would rather forget but it would only be in an ideal world that we remembered only the good things.

Sometimes we lose the ability to remember and this is called amnesia. On other occassions as in the onset of dementia, memory loss occurs but sometimes the sufferer of dementia has a very vivid recall of memories and actually lives the memory as though it were happening to them.

With a generation who remember their participation and living through World War 2 slowly dying out we are at risk of losing a lot of memories and information of the past. What was it like as a child in the war years? Can you remember your father, uncle, brother coming home from War? Can you remember what rationing was like? Were you moved to the Countryside for the duration of the War?

Please feel free to share some of these Memories here with our readers.

On a journey for Memories

An informal Coffee and Cake morning has been organised for Saturday 1st October from 10.30 until 12.30 in Coreley Village Hall, on the side of the Clee Hill.
People have been requested to bring along their photographs to help stimulate their thoughts and memories. We will be on hand to chat with the guests and jot down their memories and to record some of the more poignant moments.
When I sent the press release through to the local papers I did not expect the response that I got. It appears that they are very interested in following what we are doing and will help to promote the event which will be the first of many across the County.
We are looking for memories in all categories and from anywhere in the Country so if there is anyone that you know, or maybe yourself, who would like to share their memories, feel free to come along or get in touch with me and we will arrange for someone to come and have a chat with you.
I have heard some lovely memories already and am looking forward to hearing more as the weeks go by.
